Yuletide 2024
Oct. 17th, 2024 10:29 pmDear Yuletide writer, thank you for having my back this year! I'm hama over at AO3 and it's my first time participating in this event. Treats are also welcome.
I can enjoy a wide variety of genres and ratings! Violence and gore is fine with me, as is smut, even though I don't think most of my prompts here really call for it. However, plotty or insightful or atmospheric genfic (any rating) tends to stay with me the longest, and it's usually what I wish for.
My chosen fandoms, in alphabetical order!
FINAL FANTASY VI (Edgar Roni Figaro)
The shrewd Edgar has been one of my favorite Final Fantasy characters ever since I first played the game years and years ago. I'm especially into stuff that focuses on him as a ruler trying to balance an impossible diplomatic situation, but just getting to witness his smarts and "game sense" in more mundane situations would be a joy.
Shippy stuff on the side is ok, preferably either with Setzer or maybe Celes.
STRANGE HORTICULTURE (worldbuilding)
Played it, loved it, left it.
A year later and I'm still craving to read more pseudo-scientific stories about the strange and fantastic plants of that little plant store.
TAI SUI (Hui Xiangjun)
From the scraps we got in canon, Hui Xiangjun was a truly astounding individual, and while her story as presented works beautifully for the novel, I can't help but wish to know more about her. Speculative worldbuilding based on her inventions, or something with her relationships with Lin Chi (!) and/or Qiu Sha, or even taking a look at her time in the sects as a young'un, I'd love anything! Shippy stuff is ok, too, even if it's not a preference. Let's be real, the people she left behind were madly in love with her, I can't argue with canon.
But if Hui Xiangjun fails to inspire you, basically anything set in the world of the novel, with basically any of the characters, would be fantastic, but in that case I'd /really/ prefer genfic.
TURN A GUNDAM (Kihel Heim, Harry Ord, (Dianna Soreil))
The conflict (or lack thereof!) between Harry's loyalty for the monarch he'd kill and die for and the adoration he has for the woman he falls head over heels with makes for such a delicious story, I can't get enough of it. That's the primary reason I've chosen these characters -- large, theatrical emotions set at any point in canon or post-canon.
Alternatively, Kihel at any point in the story (and beyond) finds herself in the most fascinating positions politics-wise and exploring that more would be so interesting!
ZERO ESCAPE (Akane Kurashiki)
Hands up, who's madly in love with Akane Kurashiki? Yeah, me too.
I never enjoyed the sequels as much as the original game, so I would only like to read 999-adjecent stuff! If you were similarly frustrated by the sequels, you can take this as permission to play loose with the characterization (Akane's true personality gets more set in stone as the games go on, and there is some disagreement between the games as to how much of her act in the first game was just an act...). If you're a fan of the entire series, however, Akane as she's written for the trilogy as a whole is fine, too, as is including passing references to the other games.
I especially love the sibling stuff from the first game, and the wild ride that is the revelation of the Kurashiki siblings' involvement in the nonary games. Outsider perspective might work beautifully to get to experience that rush again...? But this is only a suggestion.
